Its something you rarely, if ever think you might have to do. However, parenthood really knows how to throw it at you. So be prepared for quick reactions and even quicker clean ups.
We had brought our beautiful baby boy home and he couldn't be more perfect. We had him on the changing table, delicately changing his nappy and cooing over how precious he was. i went to pat his tiny little bottom to check he was dry, when all of a sudden his legs jerked and with a loud squeak poop came firing out. It fired full force 2-3 inches and straight into my hand and i caught it like i was catching a cricket ball! In actual fact i had just squeezed my hand closed round a runny poop! A few seconds of shock and then we were roaring with laughter and looking for the quickest way to clean up and avoid us all getting pink eye!
Luckily, one of my final purchases prior to having Toby was baby safe antibacterial wipes. I used the Amazon brand Mama Bear Anti-Bacterial Surface Wipes at the time. They were well priced and did exactly what i needed them to do. We keep a pack by the changing table so we can wipe down after each change, definitely no pink eye happening in this house! I have since used the Milton version of these wipes which are great, especially if you use a dummy as they are great for keeping them clean when your baby drops them 50 million times a day.
So there you have it... how to catch a poop if you ever need to and then clean up after it!
Pro tip: While giving your baby some free time between nappy changes, cover their little sprinkler systems with a cotton wool pad or square of tissue. That way when the surprise wee breaks free its not going to hit your favourite top or worse... your face! Believe me, girls are just as bad for this as boys and they both think its equally funny to see you jump backwards with surprise.
